The Umbwe Route is considered the shortest and steepest path up Mount Kilimanjaro. It is famous for its direct approach to the southern glaciers and the Western Breach. This route is recommended only for experienced and strong hikers because it is physically demanding and offers little time for acclimatization. However, the reward is spectacular — dramatic forest trails, steep ridges, and panoramic views of the mountain.
The trek usually takes 6 days (can be extended to 7 for acclimatization) and ends with the unforgettable summit push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.

Celebrate reaching Africa’s roof! Descend back to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp for the night.
